#275 Point Piedras Blancas

#188 Spooner's Cove

Spooner's Cove in Montaña de Oro State Park is a stunning cove on the Central Coast. Alden Spooner moved here the the late 1800's and established a farm of dairy and hog. At its peak, his ranch contained 9,000 acres and 6 miles of beautiful coastline. He built a ranch house as well as several barns and warehouse to load ships to deliver. The original house still stand as well as the 100-year-old-flooring purchased from a Sears Roebuck and Co. Catalog. The inviting cove features beautiful sand as well as dramatic rock formations.

Cathedral Cove is one of the jewels of Anacapa Island in Channel Islands National Park. Its crystal clear waters and rocky shore provide a dramatic ocean vista while seclusion and lack of visitors make it an extremely peaceful treat.

Abalone Cove Shoreline Park in Rancho Palos Verdes is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Southern California. This 64 acre ecological reserve includes beautiful coves, tide pools and bluff top trails. Starfish and sunbathing seals surround the deep blue waters while the rolling hills in the background make for a perfect wild afternoon close to the city.

Malaga Cove is a hidden cove in Rancho Palos Verdes. The southern edge is rocky shore which opens up to the sandy Los Angeles County stretch. The surrounding bluffs provide seclusion and make for an enjoyable escape from city life. During the winter rains, the hills turn a beautiful shade of green.

#52 Smuggler's Cove

Smuggler's Cove on Santa Cruz Island in Channel Islands National Park is a premiere Hike in Southern California. The trail is 8 miles out and back making it a moderately strenuous hike. Carry lots of water and use caution in the summer heat. The trail crosses the beautiful island to a hidden cove which is perfect for relaxing and watching the waves roll in. Great views of Anacapa Island can also be seen. This trailhead can be reached by taking an Island Packers Cruise to Scorpion Ranch.
